Buongiorno Torino Secures Consecutive Wins with Emphatic Victory
Buongiorno Torino makes it two consecutive wins
It was a good day for Buongiorno Torino as they secured their second consecutive win and jumped to seventh place in the Serie A standings with an emphatic 3-0 victory over their maroon rivals, Salernitana. This win further extends Salernitana’s winless streak, as they are still without a victory in their third consecutive Serie A season.
Last season, Buongiorno Torino and Salernitana played out two 1-1 draws with the same goal scorers, a rare feat in Serie A that hadn’t occurred since 1968/69. Both matches saw the away side take the lead, and history repeated itself as Alessandro Buongiorno opened the scoring for Torino.
An outswinging corner seemed destined for Duván Zapata to head home, but his header went awry and fell into the path of Buongiorno, who was able to tap it in for his second senior goal. Just before halftime, Nemanja Radonjić took advantage of a poor Pasquale Mazzocchi touch and curled the ball into the net from the edge of the box, making it two-in-two for Torino.
Salernitana had their chances to reduce the deficit before the break, with Jovane Cabral hitting the post with a powerful effort. However, their hopes of a second-half comeback were quickly extinguished as Radonjić continued his impressive form. Raoul Bellanova provided the assist for Radonjić to score his second goal of the game with a left-footed finish.
Radonjić thought he had secured a hat trick when he curled in another goal from the left, but VAR ruled it out as Zapata delayed his through ball. Despite Salernitana’s efforts, Torino comfortably saw out the game and have yet to concede a goal this season, except against the mighty AC Milan.
Salernitana boss hopes to resolve issues with Boulaye Dia
Meanwhile, Salernitana boss Paulo Sousa faces a challenge in resolving issues with Boulaye Dia, who was the standout forward for the team last season with 16 goals. Dia’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers collapsed on deadline day, leading to an extended break for the player. Sousa will hope to quickly resolve the situation and have Dia back in the team.
