Premier League club Leeds United to end partnership with Marcelo Bielsa: “Change is needed”

Argentinian Marcelo Bielsa (66) is no longer the trainer of Leeds United. The number sixteen from the Premier League confirms on Sunday that the collaboration has ended.

President Andrea Radrizzani calls it “the most difficult decision” he has had to make, but a necessary one in the club’s interest. “Change is needed to maintain our status as a Premier League team. The recent results and performance are not what we expected.”

Leeds have won just five in 26 league appearances this season and are just above the relegation zone with 23 points. On Saturday, Tottenham lost 0-4 without a chance. Bielsa coached the team since the summer of 2018 and led the team to promotion in 2020.

Before joining Leeds, Bielsa trained the Argentina and Chilean national teams, Athletic Bilbao, Marseille, Lazio and Lille, among others.

Leeds has not yet named a successor.
